While it may be tricky, opening these apps is possible. Luckily, your Mac does allow you to download apps from anywhere — it just requires a few more steps. In Mojave and previous, the iCloud preference pane is where you manage the iCloud login, and each app, like iTunes and Books, can have a separate Apple ID login. In Catalina, the Apple ID preference pane centralizes both iCloud and purchase accounts in a more clearly defined and labeled way. Being a shortcut, the first way is definitely the fastest. The second way is more cumbersome, but I believe each user should know where to locate that information.
